I was born in Southern California but I call Arvada, Colorado home now. As a kid, my parents moved every few years so I usually name Crested Butte Colorado and Newport Beach, CA as having the biggest impact on me growing up.
"They fuel my sense of adventure and thirst for life."
Today I’m a stay-at-home mother of Irish-twin daughters who are 3 and 4 years old. They fuel my sense of adventure and thirst for life. I think as adults we sometimes forget to take a look at all the beauty around us - not just in remote destinations or untouched locals, but right in our own backyard. Preschoolers think everything is amazing and it is a wonderful lesson to see the world through their eyes. We spend a lot of time exploring "the bumpy roads" at the foothills of the Rockies in Colorado. It's important to me that they know they can chase after any goals they set and that they see me doing it.
I never really felt like I “got into” off-roading, but just always have had it a part of my life. As a teenager in Crested Butte, we drove on all the dirt roads that led deep into the mountains when there wasn’t much to do. This was of course in 1980s Subaru DLs and other small cars, nothing like the Land Rovers we drive now!
I remember doing a water crossing in a station wagon!
Since my background in off-roading was a bit unconventional, as soon as I signed up I decided I should learn some of the technical tactics so I joined a local Land Rover Club and within a few months had driving training with Nena Barlow and navigation practice with Emily Miller, founder of the Rebelle Rally. I reached out to Bill Burke and Penny and I did an intensive training weekend in Colorado - who better to train with than the Camel Trophy Winner turned Land Rover Trainer?! My family and I are active in the Solihull Society in Denver and I am part of the team planning the Land Rover National Rally in Ouray for July 2019. We'll be leading one of the trail rides so come out and join us!
